Channel One will close down on February 1, with Challenge filling its slot on Freeview.
It launched as Virgin 1 in 2007 as a challenge to Sky 1 from the newly-rebranded Virgin Media.
Channel One was renamed when Sky bought the Virgin Media TV family in August 2010, which became the Living TV group.
Stablemate Bravo - Britain's longest-running multichannel TV channel - was closed down* on January 1 after 25 years on air.
Most of their programmes are being redistributed across Sky1, Sky Living, and the new Sky Atlantic channel, which launches on February 1.
But Channel One's demise leaves a gap in choice not only on Freeview, but also on Virgin Media and other platforms which have not yet signed carriage deals for Sky Atlantic.
