Canal Digital, NDS plan cloud TV strategy Editor | 10-08-2012 Norway's Canal Digital satellite broadcaster is working with NDS (now part of Cisco) to launch a cloud TV platform. The platform will be deployed as a managed service hosted by NDS and will support linear satellite and over the top (OTT) service delivery to multiple screens both inside and outside the home. The comapnies say that they want to provide an "immersive TV experience" personalised to each viewer. The cloud-based infrastructure will make it possible to overhaul the user interface and introduce elements like viewer profiles and contextual social TV applications. "In providing a wholly managed service for Canal Digital we are combining our experience and technical capability to extend our role as solutions provider further than ever before," said Jesper Andersen, senior VP, service provider video technology group at Cisco. "But more significantly, the approach taken by Canal Digital shows market innovation and progression to hosted and cloud-based technologies that will enable future-proofed platforms, optimised resources and scalability."
