Astro Malaysia in 10-year IPTV deal with Maxis Louise Duffy | 06-09-2012 Malaysian pay-TV operator Astro Malaysia has signed a 10-year strategic partnership agreement with broadband operator Maxis to deliver its IPTV service B.yond and over-the-top (OTT) service Astro On-The-Go using Maxis's fibre broadband network. The deal is expected to bring B.yond and Astro On-The-Go within reach of an extra 1.3 million Malaysian homes, and will enable Maxis to deliver premium video content to its subscribers. The jointly developed consumer packages are expected to be launched by the end of this year. Astro Malaysia launched Astro On-The-Go last June, initially offering 11 TV channels, catch-up TV, VOD titles and live events to its existing customers. It will make it available to non-Astro customers by the end of the year. Its Astro B.yond IPTV service was aiming to reach 40,000 subscribers by the end of 2011. Maxis had accumulated over 57,000 broadband customers by the end of last June, including 9,352 subscribers for its fibre-based services and over 27,000 subs for its wireless internet services.
