Apple, BlackBerry dominate mobile video viewing Michelle Clancy | 21-09-2012 The iPhone remains the top device in global mobile video views, followed surprisingly by BlackBerry devices, according to a new ranking from Vuclip. Nokia's Lumia line remains conspicuously absent months after launch. Vuclip, an independent mobile video service, has released rankings for the most popular videos and the top devices used to watch those videos based on its more than 40 million monthly global unique users. It found that despite the U.S. fascination with Apple, BlackBerry models continue to dominate the top 10 list with its hold on ranks two through seven. The iPad continued its rise on the basis of tremendous demand for Apple's tablet. It is now within striking distance of Samsung's Galaxy SII smartphone in e rankings and represents a tablet entering the top ten for the first time.Symbian may be a "burning platform," but that hasn't extinguished interest in the Nokia E5, which leapt ten slots over the last quarter. Older Nokia S40 handsets such as the 2700 Classic and 6120 Classic stayed on a course toward obscurity, while Nokia's Lumia line of devices does not even register in the top 30 devices, boding poorly for adoption of Windows as Symbian's successor."While the iPhone is extremely popular, it may be surprising to those in the U.S. to see the tremendous range and depth of adoption with regard to BlackBerry and Nokia handsets," said Nickhil Jakatdar, CEO of Vuclip, in a statement. "Our view is that it is the proliferation of mass-market, low-cost smartphones in emerging markets that are impacting the overall adoption of mobile video and driving expectations around the consumers' experience with it."
