Chile's Bazuca launches subscription OTT wth Avail-TVN Gabriel Miramar-Garcia | 25-09-2012 Bazuca, the online streaming subsidiary of Chilean cable operator VTR, is planning to launch the next version of its over-the-top (OTT) video service. Bazuca will extend payment options to include subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) services for television and studio content, music, children's programming and events. It means that the operator will offer content on both a transactional VOD (TVOD) and SVOD basis, including selections from the major U.S. studios for new release and library titles, and from local market content providers to deliver regional favorites. "Both the consumer electronics and video sectors are growing quickly in Latin America," said Rodrigo Terrazas, CEO of Bazuca, in a statement. "Our focus is on tapping into those dynamic markets to deliver the best mix of digital video entertainment to consumers' connected devices." Avail-TVN is providing licencing, content preparation, metadata management, content delivery, and marketing and promotional support, as well as integrating with Bazuca's CDN and DRM solutions. Avail-TVN's AnyView Content multiplatform service will provide content in multiple adaptive bitrate (ABR) formats, in SD, HD and 3D, optimizing video streaming on any type of device. "Working with Avail-TVN, we are able to provide a range of packages and services to consumers, no matter their interests, preferred devices or viewing habits," said Terrazas. "Bazuca continues to innovate and deliver new types of services to connected consumers throughout Latin America," said Mauricio Ramos, president, Liberty Global Latin America, Bazuca's holding company. "Working with Avail-TVN provides the access to content and marketing expertise that will drive continued growth."
