Liquid Telecom to launch IPTV service in Nairobi Rebecca Hawkes | 20-11-2013 Liquid Telecom is to launch an Internet protocol television (IPTV) service in the Kenyan capital Nairobi in 2014.The company plans to introduce its triple-play service, called Ipidi, in the first quarter of next year, Shahab Meshki, Liquid Telecom's group head for customer account and service management, told ITWeb Africa.Free-to-air television content has already been sourced, the executive said, adding that the Kenyan company is hoping to partner with South Africa-based pay-TV platform DStv for Ipidi's premium channels. When it launches, Liquid Telecom will face stiff competition from the existing triple-play provider Zuku, operated by the Wananchi Group, which bundles Internet, voice and television services across the East African country. Safaricom also recently signalled its plans to launch an IPTV service in Kenya, following ongoing investment in its fibre optic network.Ipidi is also reportedly to be introduced in Zimbabwe's capital Harare through local Internet service provider (ISP) Zimbabwe Online (ZoL), the first of many African ISPs Liquid Telecom hopes to make its IPTV service available to.
