Latin America pay-TV subs spike 13% Gabriel Miramar-Garcia | 03-02-2014 The Latin American pay-TV market grew 13% to reach 60.42 million pay-TV subscribers, at the end of the third quarter of 2013, according to research from Dataxis. The NexTV LatAm report found that the sector added 6.98 million subscribers over the prior-year quarter. Brazil unsurprisingly continues to be the largest market, at 17.42 million subs, while Mexico came in second with 14.79 million. And Argentina contributed 8.29 million subs. These three top markets together thus accounted for 40.5 million pay-TV subscribers, or 67% of the regional market, the firm said. IPTV services passed MMDS for the first time in the quarter. The 'wireless cable' technology, typically deployed in rural areas, fell 27.8% to just 379,000 subscribers. Cable came in third place with 535,000 customers. Cable TV continues to lead the sector with 30.33 million users
