The Czech Republic will complete its transition to the DVB-T2 standard within the next six years. Quoting Jan Mládek, the minister of trade and industry, speaking at a conference entitled Television Digitisation 2.0, Parabola reports that the his ministry is finalising a strategy for the development of DTT and that it will be submitted by the end of June. Mládek added that it was a complex and sensitive process that would affect most Czech households, which would welcome the new standard being introduced at a later date. The transition to DVB-T2 is needed to release the 700 MHz band, which is now reserved for mobile operators and broadband internet access. However, it requires viewers to buy newer set-top boxes and TVs. Mládek said he expected cooperation between the various stakeholders, including the public broadcaster CT, during the transition and for consumers to be protected.
