* BBC Scotland to film live climb in HD Monday, April 19 2010, 11:46 BST By Andrew Laughlin, BBC Scotland has confirmed plans to broadcast a live rock climb in high definition later in the summer. In one of the biggest outside broadcasts ever in the Outer Hebrides, Dave Macleod and Tim Emmett, two of the most prominent figures in world climbing, will be filmed while ascending the tough rock face of Sron Uladail on the Isle of Harris. The live rock climb will be aired on BBC Two in Scotland and UK-wide on the BBC HD channel on August 28, running for six hours. Produced by Triple Echo for BBC Scotland, the broadcast will be a world-first live rock climb aired in HD. Preparation for the event is being co-ordinated with the North Harris Trust. The programme will also feature a world record bid by the two climbers as they attempt to ascend five world-class routes in the Outer Hebrides in just five days. "This promises to be a memorable televisual event, combining physical drama and spectacular scenery with leading-edge broadcast technology," said BBC Scotland head of television sport David Harron. "It will be a landmark project in its scale and ambition, which we hope will provide a compelling viewing experience." Triple Echo executive producer Richard Else added: "We're delighted to be working with the North Harris Trust and members of the local community on this project. And, whilst the climbing will undoubtedly be nail biting, there's so much more to this broadcast. "I've been visiting Harris for 35 years and am keen for an opportunity to celebrate the fantastic landscape, history, and culture of the isle."
