* Sydney niche DTV trial endsFriday, 30 April 2010 07:02Broadcast Australia will today switch off its Digital FORTY FOUR niche digital television (DTV) services, following a January 2010 decision by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) to end the trial licence.Although disappointed that Sydney television viewers will no longer benefit from these popular services, the company hopes this decision will lead to the announcement of key decisions on future broadcast spectrum policy. The free-to-view Digital FORTY FOUR trial has operated in Sydney for six and a half years using one of the unassigned digital channels (channel 35), and has demonstrated the flexibility and capabilities of digital broadcasting technology. It has included such unique content as National Indigenous Television (NITV), Australian Christian Channel, Expo home shopping channel, Teachers TV, Federal Parliament, a news, sport and weather headlines channel from the ABC, and a digital program guide encompassing the full scope of Freeview digital services.
