Slingbox are said to be teaming up with Freesat to launch a new Freesat+ PVR receiver with Sling power later on this year, in time for Christmas!

Sling Media are back on the scene with plans to launch a brand new Sling product with Freesat+ capabilities before Christmas this year. Join Freesat (http://www.joinfreesat.co.uk) are reporting that the new Slingbox will be a Freesat+ PVR receiver, similar we assume, to the already available Freeview version.

They go on to say that the device may also support DVB-T2 technology, making it a Freeview receiver as well as Freesat enabled.

We were quite surprised to hear that Freesat would have agreed to this due to the fact that it will allow the viewing of UK TV from outside the boundaries of the UK, Will the broadcasters be happy with this? You would be able to access your Slingbox from anywhere in the world and then watch UK TV streamed directly from your home back to you, wherever you are.

It appears 'JoinFreesat.co.uk' think the same as us, they are surprised Freesat have agreed to this, however they do state in their report that Echostar, the actual owners of the Slingmedia brand, have confirmed that this is true.

We're going to take this one with a pinch of salt for the moment, as much as want one of these Slingboxes next to our blu-ray player plugged into our LCD TVs, we get the feeling it could all be just a rumour. If you know any more details feel free to post them in the comments section below.
