HWW going to Gracenote in $19MN acquisition Details Editor | 03 October 2014 Positioning the company for growth throughout Asia-Pacific, in particular the Australian TV and digital entertainment market, Gracenote has acquired HWW in a deal valued at $19 million.Formerly owned by the Nine Entertainment, HWW is said to be Australia's leading provider of TV and film data and syndicates TV and movie data to leading Australian broadcasters, pay-TV operators and on-demand services for programme guides on a wide range of devices, including IPTV, cable and satellite set-top boxes, smart TVs and mobile apps. The company claims to have data describing millions of TV programmes and movies across more than 700 national and local TV channels in Australia. Its customers include Fetch TV, Foxtel, Freeview, ninemsn, Samsung and Yahoo!7. The HWW DataGenius software platform is also used to support entertainment data services in 50 countries across Australasia, Africa and the Middle East.Following acquisition the HWW team will continue to operate from its headquarters in Sydney and with its addition, Gracenote will now be able to provide TV listings and show and film data for more than 55 countries across six continents. The deal marks a further part of Gracenote's expansion over 2014 since being acquired by Tribune Media in January and integrated with Tribune Media Services (TMS) under the Gracenote brand. In July 2014 Gracenote expanded into India, the Middle East and parts of Asia with Tribune's acquisition of What's-ON, the region's top TV data provider."We are seeing increasing demand from customers to support Australia and the surrounding region," said John Batter, CEO of Gracenote.
