Amazon signs on for new Televisa global premium original SVOD service DetailsJuan Fernandez Gonzalez | 23 February 2018 Mexico's Televisa has launched a new premium content division, which has already found a global partner in Amazon's subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service.Through offices in Los Angeles and Mexico City, Televisa Alternative Originals (TAO) will focus on developing, producing and distributing premium content for SVOD and pay-TV players.According to the Mexican company, launching TAO increases Televisa's commitment with developing and producing original contents for the global audience. "The agreement with Amazon positions the company as a key player in the region, working together with a platform that will boost Televisa's content reach," pointed out the media giant.TAO's agreement with Amazon Prime Video is for an undisclosed number of series and the growing SVOD platform will air titles worldwide, while Televisa will keep rights for Mexico's pay-TV and free-to-air and Univision in the US.As for Amazon, the company intends to enlarge its Spanish-language original catalogue with quality content, aiming to draw more subscribers for Prime Video in Mexico and Latina America."As the streaming industry continues growing around the globe, TAO fills an empty niche in the market, thanks to its access to multi-cultural stories and Latin American talent," added the Mexican company.
