Mediapro bolsters immersive offering with Visyon acquisition DetailsEditor | 18 May 2019 Accelerating its strategy of evolving its role as a content producer and aiming to reinforce its leadership in the production of VR and AR content, Mediapro has acquired immersive audiovisual company Visyon.Founded in 2012, Visyon claims to have been a pioneer in immersive technology solutions such as virtual reality, augmented reality and mixed reality. The firm employs 70 people, the majority of whom at its principal headquarters in Barcelona and also has offices in Madrid, London and Dubai as well as presence in Milan, Eindhoven, San Francisco and New York.Since its creation, Visyon has developed more than 400 projects and claims to be the leader in the Spanish market for extended reality and its work see use in industries such as sports, entertainment, business, retail, education and health.Mediapro and Visyon have worked together since 2014, and with the strategic acquisition Mediapro says that it is taking a further step in its journey to develop new technologies. The two companies have already developed content solutions for major sports and entertainment clients, such as the production of the first live VR television broadcast of a football competition, the Arab Emirates League.Other projects include work with Spanish national broadcaster RTVE for whom which Visyon developed 360 degree and VR solutions for the broadcast of the last Goya Awards. It also recorded and post-produced content for the RTVE app as part of its offering for the International Classical Theatre Festival of Almagro. Visyon has collaborated with Nike in the creation of an interactive experience that turns a treadmill into an arcade game featuring a virtual version of the user in pixel art.Currently, Mediapro and Visyon are developing new business models for immersive streaming of content, sports and entertainment, and believe that their work is leading the evolution of the esports industry and exploring multiple use cases for the market potential that will appear with the deployment of 5G connectivity.
