1+1 Media provides anti-piracy reportJanuary 13, 2020 05.54 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul The Ukrainian broadcast group 1+1 Media submitted 62 claims against pirates in 2019. Working together with the Cyber Police Department of the National Police of Ukraine, it carried out 12 investigations into infringements of intellectual property rights and filed nine allegations of violations related to the activity of card sharing services. Commenting on its activities, Vyacheslav Mienko, director of GR Group 1+1 Media, said: “We are always ready for a dialogue and a peaceful settlement of any disputes before criminal proceedings are opened. That is why we constantly monitor violations and conduct active claims. But if violators do not respond to our appeals, lawyers are recruited. They are convinced that bringing criminals to justice is the most effective way to protect their rights, which, despite the lengthy process, does not allow them to avoid punishment. Currently, our civil lawsuits in criminal proceedings already reach millions of hryvnias. Cardsharing will be a particular focus of our attention this year. We also plan to initiate a number of changes to the legislation to simplify the procedure for bringing criminals to justice and to strengthen them for infringement of intellectual property rights”.1+1 Media notes that in 2013 it and other Ukrainian rights holders joined the Clean Sky Initiative in order to protect he rights of content producers and content owners. By working together, they are developing a legal audiovisual content market in the domestic media space and are actively fighting sites and providers that use copyrighted content without the permission of the copyright owner.
